"actresses." Not only ugly and shrewish, she is untalented.
But the problem is the movie itself...one of the most mean-spiritied, disheartening pieces of nastiness ever.
Movies that make one dislike his own species are not to be recommended. As Oscar W said, "We're all lying in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars."

Ugly?untalented?The same Anjelica Huston from Grifters?When looking at those stars the sewage can still be felt on the backside regardless.That is black comedy.I must do as patrickU said and watch this again.

She is quite a nice actress and one with character, not a " pipi " one like " beautiful face " without soul.
With her father " the great John Huston " how could she possibly be not?
" The Dead " is one of most underrated film ever.
She is in. And HOW!

      The non-letterboxed laserdisc is tolerable but every Epiphany when I watch this I lament the lack of a good letterbxed anamorphic DVD with DTS 5.1 sound (that wonderful room filling piano music). You are correct: SOME DAY.

What about her work in Huston's "The Dead"? I found it very convincing. Also her work in Allen's "Crimes and Misdemeanors".

  The last scene in The Dead is heartbrealing.
  Although I haven't seen it for years, I enjoyed Prizzi's Honor, both for its dark humor and AH's performance.
  Houston's strong features may not be conventionally beautiful, but I certainly don't find her in the least "ugly" or unattractive and I think she's a fine actress.
  In fact, I thought Houston should've gotten another Oscar for The Grifters - her portrayal of Lilly Dilloon was devastating.

    I first saw Angelica Huston in the early 70s when her first movie ran on the CBS Late Night at the Movies show. It was directed by her father John and was about the Hundred Years War in England. Can't remember the title off the top of my head but I liked her very much.
    She didn't impress me with anything she did after that until "Prizzi's Honor." Remember that great scene with her father?
    "He took me. And we did it. Right here on the floor." I can still hear that accent!
    I think she's been great ever since. "The Grifters," "The Dead"...wonderful performances!
