...it was on tonight. Pretty much confirmed my previous feelings about it - I was substantially underwhelmed. It had too few good moments to save it, and it was not just the disjoined nature that others mentioned that was its damnation - it was just not a strong film, period.

But at any rate, it was not the choppiness that bothered me, but the fact that in a good movie ever scene should be able to stand on its feet. In this one very few had that power, and even then only the promise. For instance the unforgettable Number One... Number Two... Number Three... ...Number Nine... scene has the promise, and it had the tension for short time, but then let go, unfortunately. None of the episode had a true revelation, noen of them raised above just "good", and most were trivial.
How long was it? The reconstituated version should be at least 3 hours, but if you think it is not worth....and shows no promises.
So letīs forget it!
I think that one was about two hours, so I presume it was the "wrong" one. Is it possible the good version will join all those scenes into something that is bigger than the sum of its parts? Yes, of course, but I would be skeptical at this point, as I think it would truly have to take different quality to become a great film.Given the discussion of the two versions, I would be quite interested to hear from anyone who had chance to view them both.
The second version will be at the Cannes festival and shortly after on DVD.
