IMHO, Pitt was not the weakest link. He was perfectly cast--a narcissistic killing machine. I really like him in this role--he exuded supreme self-confidence; he was intimidating in battle.I think Eric Bana was unconvincing as Hector of Troy. He was supposed to be Troy's greatest warrior, but he seemed to struggle as a warrior. Just an opinion.
Overall, a great movie. It will be joining by DVD collection later this year.
Follow Ups:
Pitt is not known for depth and I found his Achilles rather mono-dimensional. (I went to a 17:30 showing and there were several gaggles of teen girls there--we know why.)Bana showed a Hector that had some sense and who was intimidated by Achilles. He added humanity to the role.
I appreciated the moments of irony when both Hector and Paris gave O'Toole the right advice which he did not promptly follow.
"Yep, this one will take Gladiator's place on the DVD shelf."I was actually getting enthusiastic about seeing Troy soon until you said this. BTW, I can't stand "Gladiator" and think it's got to be the most overrated film of the decade (well... there is Titanic).
