This is the one from last year, not the 1997 film.
It is a very disturbing look at a "nice" young girl seduced into drugs, crime, and other dangerous pursuits by a wild girl who is very popular at school. Holly Hunter plays the nice girl's mother and has problems of her own. The screenplay was written by the actress who plays the wild girl.
It is my sincere hope that this unpleasant film shows thirteen year old s who are decidedly atypical. Otherwise, we ARE in big trouble.

My wife and I watched this film with our 13 year old daughter when it first came out on video, maybe a couple of months ago. While the things going on in this film may be atypical for 13 year olds in our upscale No. CA community, they are not necessarily for for some 15 or 16 year olds.
Once your daughters get into high school their peers have more influence than their parents. If you've done a good job as parents for those first 14 and you are lucky - your daughter is not too impulsive and has a good sense of herself - then the girls portrayed in this film are the "other bad girls".
