to satisfy Ebert's need for accuracy and tone. Wolfgang modernized the characters by humanizing them. That is obvious. Only O'Toole came close to delivering the old-time, classic characterization of toga epics that Ebert wanted to see.I find usually find Ebert agreeable, but not this time. He was looking for too much and missed the energy of the film.
