One of my more favorite films, and one of my earliest DVD purchases; I'm trying hard not to buy the new edition, but I know the picture has been substantially improved."Not as deep as The Natural": While I like The Natural overall, I find it more forced and heavyhanded than FoD, and in some ways disjointed. I also, frankly, don't like whatever "deepness" there's supposed to be: I've watched the movie many times, but still feel like I'm missing half of the allegory or whatever it's supposed to be.
Follow Ups:
One scene in FOD tears me up every time..."hey, Dad, wanna have a catch?"I just turned 50 years old last week, and my Dad has been dead now for 27 years...I'd give ANTHING to throw a baseball around with him for five minutes.
Is this Costner best film? I know he won the accolades for Dances with Wolves, and I love him in Bull Durham, but imo, FOD will be the one that will LAST.
regards,
Yeah I'd agree that this is Costner's best film...I also think it's better than the Natural.Field of Dreams is less about baseball - not really a beaseball movie at all - it's about relationship, opportubnities missed, and regret. It's one of the best American films.
