"Behind the Lines" is an anti-war film set during WWI, mainly in a mental hospital where soldiers who have cracked are rehabilitated for return to the war, and centers around the war poet Siegfried Sassoon. It's based on the book Regeneration by Pat Barker which I'd read a few years ago. The gay content of the book is minimized in the film(but not completely removed); otherwise, from what I can remember about the book, the film seems to be pretty faithful to it. Interesting little piece of history with some good performances, particularly from Jonathan Pryce."Mumford" is an odd one, a "feel-good" piece of fluff that I found very entertaining. Assorted off-beat characters abound with Loren Dean giving a very low key Charles Grodin-esque performance as Mumford, the new psychologist in town.
Two films dealing with mental health that couldn't be more different.
That Mumford recommendation sounded good, but then I did some search on the imdb and it lead me straight to that hmmm, shall we say, intriguing title.I guess one can be relatively sure that anyone giving his "movie" name like that doesn't suffer from too many bright ideas in his swollen head.
Anyone seen it? Was it actually promoted like that?
Don't tell me it is good - I shall not be able to overcome my distaste to rent it. And I could swear with the worst of Russian sailors.
I happened to catch Mumford while on a Disney Cruise in Dec. and it's got my "thumbs up" as well. I don't even remember it being in the theaters for that matter. I guess with all the garbage being forced on us in theaters these days, little gems like this get overlooked.
Somehow I never got around to seeing that one.
