Glad you liked it.George Peppard was supposed to play Stuart Whitmans part, but after a few days in the 'Bush'he packed up and left.The story is they called Whitman who learned all his lines in 48 hours, many think it is his best role.Notice also that when he shoots

I don't know how George would be able to play the mean streak in the hero... he is such a sweet guy. Whitman is indeed good, and as I said, I was pleasantly surprised, as generally I treat that genre as a time filler... this one is a good film.BTW - we don't know that happened to the pilot - I presume nothing good, and it was great to let his line and the doctor's just ride into sunset.
I think you are right about the rifle, the ammo certainly looked that way, and the rifle was big enough. I hope they didn't make the actor experience the REAL recoil of the beat, though!
