The AltaVista translator only gave me the glimps of what's there, but reading it was a torture. It is definitely not up to snuff for critical articles.

That is a very good critic, and it was all I could do after seing this film.
This is not one you can connect to intellectuality on the spot, at least not me. I need to be soak in for at least one night. It work forcefully throught your mind and reach the very bottom of your unconsiousness, if bottom there is ...
The photograpies are extraordinary, certainly the very best ever. Outdated where the sudden sounds paired with a brutal change of mood of the picture, very " theatrale "...
As a film from the conscient it is good to very good. As a film from the underworld it is outstanding.PS: Bibi telling that they choose to be friend with Liv and not " bitches " and her nursing of Ingmar and his new love...Was down to earth...The only hero, in the end, remain yourself...
Movies like this you keep coming back to for many days, and then, much later, you still have flashes of returns... not just movies, of course, good books and music has the same power too.It may not be the best Bergman's film, but it is a remarkable cinematorgaphic achievement in its own right.
In fact I had more the feeling to read a book or in this case a scribt, as to see a film even from start there is a stong emphasis on the light. But the erotic images told, are more powerful than actually any scenes who would have depicte blantly the situation.
One of the very good scene, showing us that sexuality is in the brain and no where else..
Yet, it is a masterpiece.
Bergman, hat the urge to remplace God with Freud. In my eyes the wrong way, as much I love his undertsanding of the human soul. Both are complementaire.( ary )
In the end .... Nothing compare to the real ( ? ) thing....God.
I think the power of the book lies in its time element - you absorb it more gradually and have more chance to "suffer" along.A movie, by comparisson, sets the stage and then leaves you to fill in the blanks and to create your own building using it as just a foundation. That building sometimes takes hours, sometimes days... days, as in case of a book.
