Tin,While the film itself drags along, Caine was quite good as Pvt. "Tosh" (the irony) Hearne in "Too Late the Hero".
It was made in either 1969 or 1970.
Denholm Elliott and Cliff Robertson co-star in this WW2 drama.
But my all-time favorite Caine is...Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Dirty was originally played by Niven and Brando....bad film...very bad...It had it all, but helas...
well, especially American to French.
Everyone I know thinks that film is hilarious---Brando plays on a much earlier role he did as a paraplegic, of course. Brilliant!
It has to do with translation. I saw the film twice or more it was just flawed. When you says that all the people you know do find it to their liking, I am amazed.
Tomorrow I will grab critics and let you know.
This film had it all. But never realised.
