Others have posted on this one before butI just saw it for the first time on DVD. It is very well done, powerful, and haunting. The DVD also has a documentary on these 140 or so institutions, the last of which closed in 1996. Hard to believe that such evil existed, much less into our own time.
Follow Ups:
were brutal beyond belief, one of them actually drooled as he beat us. Not surprising to me, at all, unfortunately. A bunch of very sick bastards...
and some if not all of those girls' parents....The performances were great, esp. from ... damn, the actress who played the girl who gets committed....
The cover art on the DVD is weirdly misleading, though. Don't you think?
Im think that what they were attempting is to show that even for a flirtacious look a girl could get herself admitted into one of those horrible places. I agree on the nuns; having been raised Catholic I have never met a nun I liked. And how the girls' parents could let these incarcerations happen is unbelievable.
