I wonder with the coming of HD DVD ( two in France and the same in Germany ) no question soon ( next five years ) there will be a lot of titles to choose from.
I have hundreds of DVD, replacing a lot of VHS.
Will we buy the same films again?
Follow Ups:
I suspect for yours and mine lives the HD DVD shall remain perhaps a nice addition to the collection, but not the major event.Like the HDTV - nothing to watch for years to come.
They didn't even HD the TDF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Patrick,As I packed up my film collection for the big move, I made an accurate counting of what I had and the various formats.
The first thought was "G-d, there is no F#*#*# way I am going to replace this stuff again with something else," and the second thought was "it is going to be years before many older films (still only on VHS) are going to be out on DVD, let alone HD DVD, so don't worry about it yet".
I have 400 DVDs (which replaced around 200 LDs and some 100 VHS tapes) and around 175 older films on tape. There is no way I am going to junk 400 DVDs for 400 new HD DVDs unless the quality is akin to switching between a Sanyo projector and fully tricked out Faroudja with one of their DVD players.

"I think this place is restricted Wang, so don't tell them you're Jewish"
OH! I forgot the hundreds of costly mostly LD ( US import ) I throw up for $3 a piece....
