I have been saying all along that Tarantino is a wasted talent, the poet of garbage, and he will be soon forgotten.

Diverse beings working within their racial traits and strenghts to overcome desperate odds together.
A historical and cultural understanding of each race and character in LoTR is neccessary. It's a fantasy world and needs to be understood in full context to gain everything there is to gain from the film.
Try the books starting with The Hobbit then move on to LoTR.

....who has never seen a LOTR movie. Maybe one day, but the trailers don't exactly excite me. As for Tarantino being forgotten, I think he is somewhat of a long lasting fad. Weren't Stephen King movies very popular as a whole only a few years back? Fad directors are probably no different than fad actors. No?
