Frenetic editing almost made this sequel too uncomfortable to watch. We do not see the picture postcard Europe of the first film as it was faster paced and had somber, noir-like quality. There's little to no character development due to the high rate of action sequences and it's not needed as there is only one new principal face, Joan Allen. That's not to say this is a bad movie at all, in fact, it equals the first for entertainment value but on an entirely different level. Introducing Russian villians is a timely plot spin and the chase scenes through the streets of "Moscow" certainly won't attract tourists. The ending leaves room for another adventure (or does it?) so we'll have to see how this does at the cash register.

It shouldn't take much knowledge to figure out that was Tokyo. Not everything outside the small TX town is Russia, you know...
> > > "...small TX town..." < < <Yeah, right! "small town" Arlington, Texas, right in the heart of the D/FW metroplex (i.e., population exceeding 5,000,000). No offense, but you seem soooo clueless, sometimes; you really should take a break from tilling your idol's back 40 in Crawford and hitch a ride into the big city! ;^)
C'mon Victor, SEE the REAL AMERICA, first! :o)

I once tried to read one of these Robert Ludlum books and it was horrible. But the film makers have thrown out everything but the concept and come up with very enjoyable summer movies. The first one was virtually plotless, just Jason Bourne being chased and chasing back, for obscure reasons. This one has a slightly meatier plot, but really it matters little. This is a chase movie, trained killer verging on superhuman against many police and spy agencies. Never a dull moment. I did think the Moscow car chase went on a little too long and it was impossible to even know what was happening. But the rest of it was cool. If there have to be mindless action movies, may they be like this.
I have not sen the first nfilm but I enjoyed this one and will seek out "...Identity". I did think the Moscow taxi chase sequence was a bit over the top. Most of us end up with aches and pains from just a minor car accident.
Loved the first film for its frosty demeanour, back-streets scenes and the 'cold' visual tones in the filming itself - this is a side of Europe I know and this melancholic vein is desiturbingly familiar. One of the reasons the first film was so watchable for me.Must say though, the trailer (01) at the official site bears little or no resemblance to the restrained, authentic dialogue of the actual film. If I had seen that trailer, I wouldn't have bothered with it at all. The actual film had a kind of art house feel to it, perpetuated my a surprisingly good performance by Matt Damon. He really captured the sense of frustration, without histrionics, of his predicament that made the rest of the action work splendidly.
Big J.
