This is not about the "best" of anything in film. Rather, aa list of the films, regardless of content, that you have watched/will watch the most oftened.I've divided mine into "classics" and "modern" but proceed any way you like.
My most watched
"classic 10":Out of the Past, Human Desire, The Big Heat, Asphalt Jungle, Big Sleep, Maltese Falcon, Dead Reckoning, The Third Man, The Quiet Man, Casablanca, and honorable mention: Curse of the Demon.
My Most watched (I used 1960 as a cutoff)
"modern 10"The Ninth Gate, Band of Brothers, Saving Pvt. Ryan, Silence of the Lambs, L.A. Confidential, Caddyshack, Blazing Saddles, Chinatown (and "Jakes" sequel), and either The Exorcist or an obscure movie called Thick as Thieves.
Again, not necessarily the best movies...just the ones you've popeed in the player the most often.
Anyone care to share?
Thanks,

Another film noir fan.
Hep,Thanks! Looks like we have similar tastes- rockabilly and film noir. If you're a fan of film noir, check out noirfilm.com.
This is THE place for the discussion of this great style of film...and a great place to discover those "B" noirs that are obscure.
all the best,
These are my favorites among sound films and I have them as a separate part of the collection. I watch each at least once a year.
"Apocolypse Now Redux'
"The Bear"
"Ben Hur"
"Casablanca"
"Chinatown"
"Citizen Kane"
"The Dead"
"E.T." (revised edition)
"The French Lieutenant's Woman"
"The Ghost and Mrs. Muir"
"The Godfather Trilogy"
"Jaws"
"Jean de Florette/Manon of the Spring"
"Moby Dick"
"One Eyed Jacks"
"RKO 281"
"Saving Private Ryan"
"The Searchers"
"The Shining"
"2001: A Space Odyssey"
Thanks, Rico!I find this type of viewer's list very helpful...for example, I've thought right along that I was one of a very few fans of RKO 281, which is in my tape library as well.
You and Patrick discussed Huston's The Dead a few weeks back, and now it is on m list to see (for the second time) and perhaps own. I even pulled out my Modern Library copy of Joyce's short stories, and re-read it...sometimes called the greatest short story ever.
Again, thanks!
I recommend "RKO 281" and the PBS documentary on Welles and Hearst (the second DVD in the CK box set) as a great introduction to "Citizen kane". The beginning and end of "...281" where Welles meets Hearst are of course apocryphal but I think Schrieber does a great Welles and Malovich a great Mank. I particularly enjoy the Hedda Hopper and Louella Parsons characters. And Croimwell is great as Hearst. As for "The Dead, sadly it is not yet on DVD. I have it on laserdisc and watch it each year at Epiphany. I think you will find it a very successful film vesion of the Joyce short story.
Just out of curiosity - how many times per year would you be watching these films?
PDL,The simple answer is once or twice each per year...some more, some less. Almost everything on this list gets a watch at least every year.
I couldn't tell by your post...are you being sarcastic in asking this?
I know some people view the idea of re-watching a film as stupid...to each, their own.
Regards,
Just asking - actually I had intended to write a little bit more, but then work intervened and I had to step away from my PC...There a couple of films that I own that I watch about 2x a year. Any more frequently than that and its not too fun.Luckily, as I get older and more forgetful, a 6 month interval between viewings almost guarentees each viewing is like watching the movie for the 1st time :-)

25. The Third ManNeed to add The Godfather and Godfather II and Schindler's List so maybe I expand my list sometime.
PS I think Blood Simple ranks right up there with the best film noirs of all time.
Hep,Ya know, I gotta add both Godfathers to my list of most watched as well.
Great list, and with the excption of La Dolce Vita, Star Wars, The Shining and Blow Out, your list could be mine as well.
Blood Simple, eh...well, I'll agree that it is as good a NEO-noir as there is. M. Emmitt Walsh's role is as slimey as anything Dan Duryea, Marc Lawrence or any of the other character actors of the classic period of noir ever pulled off. One exception might be the great Strother Martin, who wasn't in a lot of noirs, but he made sleazy an art form.
All the best,
I had to leave off some great titles to narrow it to 10:The Secret Code
Manhunt on Mystery Island
Secret Agents vs the Black Dragon (the other Rod Cameron title)
Dick Tracy's G-Men
The Phantom
SOS Coat Guard
Secret Agent X-9
The Masked Marvel...and many more (continued next week)! ;^)
I've never managed to see the final episode of Manhunt on Mystery island - can you suggest where I can get a copy of this serial, please ?
AuPh,Thanks for the reply...we have some of the same films listed, but my favorite on your list is the Rory Gallagher Irish Tour '74...I'm a huge fan, and watch it/have watched it alot. A truly great performer.
Good idea about the additonal catagories!
