Yeah, I'm excited about this movie, but though the release may be limited, I think I saw it advertised for Cinemark theaters in Plano, rather than the "art house" theaters (Angelika, Magnolia, Inwood). It will certainly be released in the U.S. market--months after the movie--as an R1, and it may be well done--remember that "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" was even releaesed in a Superbit version.
I am fully aware that American cinema often butchers foreign movies, but is it also possible that it might be improved in some ways--i.e., the subtitles might better translated, etc?
And lastly, many of us only have region 1 players, though I know that region free players are available over the net. Since I use my player for home theater AND high-end audio (SACD, DVD-A), I think I prefer the U.S. univeral players (e.g., Denon, Marantz and others).

Please don't let Jet Li's Hollywood movies of late confuse you. "Hero" is neither a Jet Li's movie, nor a Kung Fu flick. While I can imagine some Westerners "not getting it," I highly doubt it since what's universal is universal.
Whats so good about it?
The plot, the charactors, the acting, the cinimatography, and especially the ending. The Kung Fu isn't the main attraction, though it is pretty good.

That was pretty good, I thought?
