It was about 1976 when I first saw it. I was only 9 years old and it scared the sh@rk out of me. I'de be interested in reading what you thought of it.
Follow Ups:
Pales compared to "The Exorcist" and sometimes it's pretty damned silly but, all in all, an entertaining and mildly scary flick.
much so as "The Exorcist" when it first came out. I've recently watched both with my 14 year old and they hold up fairly well although the benchmarks have changed in 30 years. We also watched the remake of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" last weekend and it was well done and even more disturbing than the original - or either of those.
Regards,
Mike
what was the zodiac sign of the director? go take your vitamins
The night I came home from seeing it the theater, I lived by myself. Every creek of that roof got me out of bed. The peeing in the beginning was VERY dsiturbing to me. Thinking the devil could take over and humilate a person, like that.
It's like the took the original, cut out all of the violent scenes and left nothing but the bad acting.
n
It also scared the bejeebers out of me at some points...'course I was 7 at the time :)
I have always enjoyed it and still watch it now and again. favorite scenes are the boy's terror as they approach the church and the ending where Peck has to kill the boy.
The part where the piece of glass slides off the flatbed and cuts the guys head off sticks in my mind. Also the jackal bones, and satanic dogs, and the metal rod that falls and stabs the guy.
But I was a snob. I had just gotten out of college and was wrapped up in films by Scorsese, Coppola et al. I thought The Omen was just silly.I have no idea what I'd think of it now.
Forbidden Planet, X: The Man With The X-Ray Eyes and the original of The Thing used to scare the bejezus out of me when I was a little kid. Used to sleep with the closet light on, lol.
Found it creepy. This was during the "Late Great Planet Earth" days while I was at college. Especially liked the hot nanny who hung herself at the birthday party. Seeing it now it seems really silly--not so then. (Every film has its time.)
