Ewan McGregorIf you combine Obi-Wan and his character in Down with Love, I think he could do it. What do you think?

Follow Ups:
Has the requisite degree of inner turmoil and melancholia, as well as a wry smile. More of cross between Sean Connery and James Lazenby. McGregor (nice chap) is just 'too nice'.

He is a natural James Bond. Those car commecials for BMW show him to be the perfect Bond\with a dark side.
Not seen those over here, but I can guess what you mean. Just saw him in 'Croupier' and with a cameo in 'The Bourne Identity'. Think he is great.I believe he is just about to appear in (or has already appeared in - not seen it here in the UK yet) Mike Hodge's 'I'll sleep when I'm dead', who also directed 'Croupier'.

You can download the BMW films here . Be sure to get the season 1 films too, I liked them more than the second season.
It was a good idea picking great directors (Ang Lee, Wong Kar-Wai, Alejandro González Iñárritu, etc) to make mini films/ads all featuring the same character.
i know what you mean about clive owen. i saw him in king arthur, and i think he's definitely an actor to watch out for.timothy dalton never really made a hit with the public with the darker incarnation of the bond character. 007 requires a little cheese like hugh grant. i'm not sure that clide owen could do the duan juan side of 007 justice, and he doesn't have the right look. he'd make a perfect mad genius bond villain, though.
my vote goes to christian bale. he's got the handsome looks and can turn on the 007 charm one minute and do the brooding, dangerous thing the next. he'd have to bulk up, though.
"HO, HO, HO!" - Santa Claus
Can see where you're coming from. I find Bale's presentation a little too 'obvious' or 'action-man-like' for the role though.

The girlfriend and I both agree on this...
Although, I don't imagine his stock is at an all-time high after King Arthur (which wasn't his fault.) But he'd make a nice, sexy, broody Bond. In the English press at least, Clive's been touted (along with Ioan Gruffudd) for two or three years.
Jude Law may be the most gorgeous man alive but he's too young. Ioan Gruffudd is gorgeous but he's also too young - revisit these chaps in 10 or so years.Ewan is charming but lacks the air of danger that my ideal Bond would have. Too short, as well. Bond would have to go in a new direction.
Agree. Needs more 'weathering' physically and psycologically.
