Forget all the "things" he can do, James Bond's basic appeal to man and woman is that he is the ultimate in sexy.A man is FAR more sexy after 40 than he could ever imagine being in his 20's or even 30's (and just think of the possibilities he has in his 50"s). All the positive things they have going for them job-wise, their financial security, they have experienced more, they are more comfortable with their views and have started to have the ability to see beyond themselves, etc.
All this adds up to a man who's pheromes smell like confident, thus sexy to a woman.

That makes sense - I see Ralph Fiennes a lot more in this than a Jude Law type. He's been described as the intelligent woman's sex symbol - so how will that go over with the teen/early 20's female populace?But he seems to be busy with 5 films on the go and stage-work - but apparently Brosnon wants 20 million and 10% of the take. The films don't make enough money to warrant that. I hear James Purefoy is the front runner - I am unfamiliar with him - so he's probably cheap - means more profit - well if anyone goes to see it.

Think Timothy Dalton. Young, handsome, able to look realistic in the special effect shots, but he didn't make it as 007 because he was too young. Wasn't there questions about Brosnan because he was too old?
Sex appeal attraction is age irrelevant. We have HD's. At every gathering we see all sorts of combinations of "older" men with (sometimes much) younger women. Looking at these pairings with a mothers eye, its not just the bike that they are attracted to. And how many men in their 40's & 50's have started a second family with a younger wife? LOTS. If a sexy, self assured (but not cocky) man makes even a beautiful woman feel beautiful, think what all those average looking women going to the movies are feeling.
As old as Sean Connery was supposed to be in "First Knight" he was still the ultimate in sexy and I can't think of any current star who will ever surpass his on-screen charm.
