I caught this today. Every bit as scary as you said.I thought it was clever to have them named Kintner, the name of the the boy who was Jaws' second victim in that film.
Which leads me to point out one of the many continuity errors in Jaws: Chrissie, the first victim is killed on July 1 (we see Brody typing that date) and Alex kintner was killed on June 30 (we see that date on the mother's reward poster).

Others include the winter-bare trees outside during the impromptu town meeeting (this in late June?) and a miraculous switch in the color of Brody's shorts while they are sitting on the beach.
