I didn't think it was too bad, but I know what you mean. I have sympathy for the director though as I imagine it must have been difficult to portray the unknown and garner a sense of awe in the process (the 'wormhole slingshot' effects were pretty exciting and tough to trump). One of my favourite sci-fi flicks for the fact that it seems set in the very near future (or alternate now) and keeps psudo-science and fancy 'tech' stuff to a minimum.
