I think TAFKA Steve's description is excellent and funny! But I thought it was dreadful. The type of movie that has some cool scenes but just keeps getting more stupid as it progresses. I'd say don't bother!
Uses the standard plot device for this genre: Jesus good, organized religion (the Catholic Church in particular) bad. Discovery of a new "Gospel According To..." is similar to Leon Uris' "The Word" and may have some truth in an unpublished Dead Sea Scroll. Gory, but not really scary. European version may have prolonged sex scene between Arquette and her boyfriend that was left out of the U.S. theater version (but is an extra scene on the DVD).
I expected it to be a rather controversial movie, but guess it's not. Back to Danish Dogme again....Rob
God wins again, and that's after getting his ass kicked all the way through the movie. He should have brought in Brad Pitt, or at the very least, Meat Loaf.
God's ways are unpredictable, John. Surely Brad Pitt needs to make sure he starts to look like this divine creature Meat Loaf, because that's what he is according to my girlfriend. No mo working out,
Rob
