rico,Zelig happens to be the only movie I saw on the opening day, and it is a lot of fun. The quasi-documentary style- which Allwn used in "Take the Money And Run" and more recently in "Sweet and Low Down" was well done- plenty of fun period detail concerning 20's ideas on mental health and treatment.
You can see Allen's affection for the old Movietone newsreel style- the way odd fads were perpetuated was not unlike today's style.
The integration of Allen into the scenes was so well done, you can sit back and enjoy it. I enjoyed the scene with the Pope too and also the scene where Allen makes a commotion on the dais and Hitler suddenly swings around to look.
And there is a good message of reinforcing individualism in "Zelig" that is more important now than ever.
