The DVD version contains numerous FURTHER changes and enhancements from the re-releases of the late ninties. As for his complaint about Jabba, further CGI has been done to make him more realistic and consistent in the films. This article looks like an excuse to complain about something nmot that important as he has no problem with some changes and does with others.

I'm not. George had it right the first time.I think you missed the writer's point. You may disagree with the article - you may even prefer the current DVD versions of the SW Trilogy. But I agree with the writer that some of the story "enhancements" added later detract from the original films.
I gave up on Lucas' storytelling skills years ago. But I'd still kinda like to have the original versions available on a nice DVD.
Posters 'n all. Really brought back memories for me, more than the 'improved versions' ever will.Whilst Lucas may feel he can now perfect the film (like bad art> mainly by adding pointless visual distraction and fussy detail, as well as paring away opportunities for our imaginations to take root by showing/explaining too much [see extra Mos Eisly shots for early example]), it wasn't the director's cut which made such a massive impact on me and the world.
I want DVDs of the original, "warts 'n all"; I want the cheesy but visceral effects; I want the clunky Tatooine speeders that actually looked like they were part of the landscape; in short, I want the original films which were *OF THEIR TIME* to help me feel like I felt in '77, not a low-cal, healthy/improved chargrilled re-hash. Without the add-ons, I felt I shared this STAR WARS universe with Lucas. Now, I feel left out as it becomes increasingly his own with every effect he pastes on top. There is too much sugar in this DVD cake.
