I suppose you are talking about the remake?
Follow Ups:
and I thought our actors were swine.
I've had the vids for over ten years. (Manon des Sources, in french).I am getting so old that I can no longer watch these gut-wrenching masterpieces.
I was writing about the 1986 films. Are there others?

I hd not heard. Wasn't the one with Gerard Depardieu (the man with a ham for a face) the original? It was WONDERFUL!
That a film based on the novel of Jean Giono ( wonderful writer, from the Provence, in fact the best in my view, he live where L´Occitane products are made ( hehe ), in " Manosque ".
The director being Marcel Pagnol.
There are a whole series of films from him. Written and directed. All you have seen are good remakes.
But trust me the original are so much real, not so polished. I know I was born there.
can be as beautiful as Beart.
It the first films it was Jacqueline Pagnol ( director´s wife ) who did the job.
God, what a doll.
