What a film! The production is simply breath-taking.
Follow Ups:
The info on the lighting was interesting---I don't think I've ever seen a movie that executed night scenes so well. Pure genius on wetting the cobblestones and using shadows to fill in for the missing Orson Welles.Speaking of Orson, the more I learn about him, the more of an SOB he becomes...
...I learned a lot about the making of that film. I also noticed a stiking difference in the picture quality of the U.S. version of The Third Man which was shown before the documentary. The british version which was shown after the documentary was in much worse condition. I wonder if the first one was restored and tweaked. The pristene video and audio quality tells me it must have been.
At least, it had everything that the British version was supposed to have. And it looks superb. Worth tracking down, if you are interested in watching it again...
I believe both versions of the film are on that DVD. I prefer the Brotish version.
