Yes, French wine seems to have had its share of woes recently, esp. Burgundy. But it may be a good time to pick up some relative bargains, if you know what to look for. Latley, I've shied away from French wines unless I want something special. They are just too expensive here compared to California or even Chile or Australia. I'm sure in France it's the reverse.

Yes, if you know what you are looking for. In France they offer Bordeaux for $2 in the supermarket.
I am reluctant to buy wine from Chile or the kind as they can put almost every thing in them, which is still not allowed here. And worse they all have the same " perfect taste " every year!
No way, less and better. Or you have, as you said to watch out.
In real wine veritas.....
Last night, drinking a pleasant inexpensive Merlot (Not a Great Wine, but nice) and the label reveals - a French wine! From Languedoc - making better wines every year, it seems. And, of course, I will always gladly pay for fine wines from wherever - I just wish I could drink first-growths every night!

I was there few weeks ago and make a few " visites " and I must say that the quality is getting real better. ( the prices, helas, for some higher... ) But they get mostly real better after four or five years.
Santé!
