What is there to say about this masterpiece, one which I and probably most of you have seen umteen times? The story, acting, violence, music, and direction are simply superb. I read recently that Stanley Kubrick considered it a great film and saw it more than 10 times. The current DVD box is the best video version yet and will be until the new hi def DVDs come along. I simply never tire of this and felt that way last night when I watched it and the documentary on its making (the studio executives hated both Brando and Pacino and it was only by skill and luck that Coppola was able to keep them in the cast).Tonight it's Part II, one of the few times when the sequel is as good as or better than the original (alas, not true of Part III).
Follow Ups:
Rico,I couldn't agree more...I never get tied of this one.
When the deleted scenes became available for the first film, I was in heaven. My favorite has to do with the young actress that movie producer Wolz is carrying on with...I can see why this is deleted from the film, but it makes the horse head thing more palitable later on...also deleted is the scene where the Don asks Tom Hagen if it's true that the director is carrying on with the young girl...when he gets confirmation, he tells him to "send Luca Brazi"...very chilling!
I may watch this again tonight!
Thanks,
