I think you are spot on about the social aspects of the film - although I tend to ignore those and concentrate on the overal flow. In this film it was perfectly direct, no mystery, so it was easy to acknowledge it.I haven't seen this one in years, it is not the kind of a film you would want to see too often.
Follow Ups:
No, no! I did not watch this film with the social aspect present in big letters! The moment I thought " Pasolini " it must have work underground...And the afterthoughts brang this up in full glory.
I think this film merits to be seen at least a second time. First it is erotic the Italian way ( Fellini ) ok! First it is multi layered, and the main actor is magnifiscient ( Manfredi ).
It is a satire, and as such, one of the very few that actually do work.
Mr. Moore should have on his " film to see " before I "opend my mouth"...
And now I will drive to choose one of this Pugs....
...for lack of a single word to define it (that word doesnīt seem to exist in English language; in Spanish we have "esperpento", a word practically coined by Valle-Inclán to define some of his stageworks)Yes, it is a powerful, disturbingly human film.

Good! I choose one and end of November I will bring him home.
