a very sympathetic documentary on Monk; I saw this at a film festival when this was 1st released in the mid 80's and the audience applauded at the end; that was the only film in that season that happened with
Art Pepper; "Portrait of a Jazz Survivor" you might find entertaining if you liked "Straight, NC"
Very few documentaries out there with a Jazz theme as good as these two.
Follow Ups:
"Let's Get Lost", the one on Chet Baker, is at this level. So Is "A Great Day in Harlem", about the making of the famous Art Kane photograph of all those jazz musicians on a brownstone entryway.
