I rather enjoyed Beat Takeshi's bizarre sense of humor in this. Sort of a mock tribute to the original in a way, but also very good.
Follow Ups:
I agree, Beat Takeshi brought an interesting twist to the mannerisms of the blind swordsman. Was it Beat's preference for the edgy and brutal apparent in the fight scenes? For me, the original's sense of a reluctance to get involved was the missing subtlety.
