Ashley Judd is a bright light as the star of this wonderfully realistic movie about a 20something young woman who flees what looks like domestic abuse in Tennessee and ends up in Panana City, Florida, working in a beach ware shop and earning a living and coming to terms with herself and her aspirations. She meets male and female friends and has interesting times with each. When she loses her job because of lies told by the first man she meets she even considers becoming a stripper before finding another retail position. This is a convinciing tale about real people with real people's problems and is very upolifting. From 1993.
Follow Ups:
I was right...a shooting star. Judd's done little since. I don't know about the director, though. Nice touch.
One of my favorites, but you have to be in the right mood to watch it. In many ways, I also think this was Ashley Judd's best movie.
Cetaele (aka Bob)
One of those films that a lot of smart people liked and thought was good. I just did not get it. Guess that happens.
.
That's all I remember about that film. That and her seeming to have some promise as an actress. Now she's been in what, half-a-dozen serial killer thrillers with some wisened African American co-lead?
