Hi,Maybe someone out there can answer this question about what the name of this movie is. I saw it as a child on TV about 30 years ago and it scared the heck out me. I have never seen it again. Anywhere. To this day I see some of these movie images in my nightmares, so it had a fairly large impact on me mentally as a kid. I have been searching for this movie since I first saw it.
I know that it was an apocolyptic themed movie. It had large 2' long locusts or some kind of insects, with some kind of coocoon like things being found underground about the same size (no... not "Body Snatchers"). The ending had cities burning, huge flames and crumbled buildings. It was done in an urban setting.
That's all I can remember. I once heard of some movie that I thought might have been it. This movie was described as some very harcore religous based thing, I got the feeling that this may have been it, but I'm not sure and didn't catch the title.
I know this movie wasn't some kind of "made for tv" thing (like "Gargoyes", remember that masterwork). My feeling is that it was a theatrical released film.
So was this vague enough? Anyone have a clue. If you have sugestions as to what this movie could be, please kick back some desriptions of scenes, plots, or people (and of course the title) so I can, maybe, jar my memory.
Thanks,
John LeVasseur

"Quatermass & The Pit", a.k.a. "5,000,000 Years to Earth" - one of my favourite films! The Hammer Films movie (the one you've seen), is based on a 1957 BBC television 6-episode mini-series, also called "Quatermass & The Pit". Scripted by Nigel Kneale, this is also available (probably only PAL VHS format). The technical standard is poor by today's standards (it looks like old episodes of Dr Who), but the overall atmosphere is ominous & menacing & very well handled. The pacing is also very different, as it runs for about 195 minutes as compared to the movie's 90 minutes. If you are a fan of the movie it is well worth seeing it's television ancestor.

Hey,You know what? This sounds like it may be it. The description given at your link sounds like the movie.
Man ... I've been trying to find out this info for 20 years. I can finally put the ghost to bed!!! Now I wonder if it is as disturbing as I remember it as kid. I thought Speed Racer looked great when I was a kid! Thanks

It still holds up quite well. The premise is clever and there's a genuinely creepy tone to the film. It was made by Hammer Films who made all the great Christopher Lee / Peter Cushing 1960s horror movies. Even though all of these were relatively low budget productions they were made by people who cared about what they were doing and didn't condescend to the audience or the material. The acting in Hammer movies is generally very good too.
