I'm glad to see Ron Perlman finally get to "carry" a movie lead.
I've always liked R.P..Alien Ressurection sucked, but I enjoyed Perlmans bad-guy with-a-heart-after-all, role in that film.
Line from Alien Ressurection:Ron: "...Earth!?...Damn! I'd rather stay here with the things!"
Follow Ups:
...comic super hero films so far.
Check out Chronos by the same directer Guillermo del Toro featuring Perleman.
L'Echine du Diable (in english the Devils Spine, I think)is really good, as well.
Really liked the beginning. Evil, gloating high-camp nazi fu, finally challenging the nazis from the Indiana Jones films.
There's nothing like a nefarious nazi to epitomize technologic depravity.
;-) Seriously...the first part is so badly done...ugh!
To infinity and beyond!!!

The storyline flows more smoothly in the Director's extended version; this is a perfect example of where reinserting original footage after edits made to the theatrical release version, probably for time considerations, can actually improve a film's pacing of without making the film "feel" noticeably longer.
It's very entertaining and doesn't take itself too seriously. Way too many "adventure" and fantasy films have a streak of humor but an even bigger one of stupidity, which make them unbearable for me. A recent example is "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", which is too stupid to entertain.I had thought Ron Perlman far too old to play the part but now think the casting was perfect.
