Patrick, very few people have seen The Aviator yet. It has not been released in the US. The first critic/exhibitor screenings just happened within the last 10 days. The industry buzz (so far) is favorable. David Poland (MovieCity News) seems impressed. He says it's the only movie that can beat the film version of Phantom Of The Opera for the Best Picture Oscar, whatever the hell that means. (Phantom is expected to do huge holiday business here based on the popularity of the stage musical.)
As a fan of Scorsese, I am cautiously optimistic...at least until after I see it.
A film about an aviator who made aviation films (Hells Angels)I haven't seen it; but H. Hughes story is a rattling good yarn thats long overdue for filming
DiCaprio was good in "Catch Me If You Can" which was an aviation film as much as anything. While he doesn't look anything like Hughes I don't think that will matter
Scorcese will be pretty careful with this one after his turkey "Gangs of New York".
My pick is it will be a great film
Grins
debacle. Cameron Diaz in a period piece, for Godsakes!
"Casino" (unsure it that was the title or just the site)was another hideous effort. At this point, Scorcese seems REALLY to have lost it.
