The reviewer's first words are “Believe the hype” and continues strongly positive. This was actually the source of my initial interest, but I did not find any mention in the archives here. It's seems odd for this film to have such limited exposure considering this reviewer states “It is one, if not the greatest Japanese action film to ever be released”. Subjectively, who knows. Thanks, Randy
Follow Ups:
Everyone I've talked to that has seen it, has liked it, alot. I've yet to meet someone who hasn't. My only hesitation is the gore factor. Odds are, that I'll eventually see it. This site isn't really the best for getting info on Asian movies, and Versus is a strange one at that.

I found reference to the azn site in an old post of yours. I hope you don't mind - my next obvious question would be, what is the best site for getting info on Asian movies?Yes, Versus is strange and appears different. Did you see GoJoe? Another strange one that could have been very good. I think the azn review got it exactly right. The Versus review is so positive, I can't help but wonder why the obscurity.
It will depend on what you are looking for. I tend to watch asian retailers for new movies or rereleases. www.cdjapan.co.jp is good. They have a section for Japanese movies with english subs. Azn is good for HK and chinese, with a few korean flicks too. Love HK films is good-there are discussions and reviews-they also have some links too follow. Try there, its a start.
I'm always looking for more sites for info, but it seems everyone gets the same movies at the same time. If you find some good sites, let me know.:-)Versus is abscure only in the US,where it has only recently been available, its fairly well known in Japan, and its very well known amoung folks into Asian movies. Do you have an all region player?
HTH,
Jack
I am not looking for anything in particular, so all of the sites you mentioned will offer something of interest. Only just within the last year have I been on this minor kick for Asian film. Time is limited, therefore some research is necessary to weed out the less than desirable. I came across Versus and thought it would be a good gift. I think it's a good choice. Plus, it will come back to me for a viewing. As far as I know, my player plays region 1 only. Too lazy to investigate other options.
Please, let me know of any new discoveries. Thanks, Randy
Be aware, that when reading reviews, that HK standards are not always up to US as far as production values. There is of course, cultural differences as well.
All region players are easy to get-they make life more interesting. Lots of places offer players with the added chip/programing.
I have a JVC SA-602-its quite good, and converts PAL-> NTSC very well. Progressive scan etc..
enjoy,
Jack
to get a visual taste. Yikes! Lots of limb-flying, gruesome body-opening killing going on. The flash of images showed a lot of bloody faces as in b-movie style. Well, when I get the time at least I know what I'm getting into. It was such a huge contrast and attack on my senses when I took the look. I had just over a two day viewing watched “Together” by Chen Kaige, which was a nice and touching story. Thanks for the player info and link. It's hard to give up known qualities of my Muse to enable other viewing opportunites. I'll consider the options.
