Yes, we knew it was coming. He is going to be missed and he left very nice filmography behind. One of the most interesting and unusual American actors in decades. There is no replacement for his cynical face. Big loss.
Hi Victor,
Matthau starred in this eccentric little movie all the way back in the 60's. Do you remember it? It's funny the things you remember.
It was 1971 (I checked) and I remember it quite well. Wonderful commedy. Last time I saw pieces of it was very recently, two months ago perhaps. One thing about this man - we can start naming his movies and we will all start smiling... that is his legacy. And his way of walking - you could tell him from behind mile away. Even when he was not wearing Glenda Jackson's robe...
In his partucular niche he was without equal. Jack Lemon is way too pale next to him and has never been able to stand on his own - the Apartment perhaps being his lone solo achievement.
In this case we knew abut his imminent demise and we sort of got ready, but it is still enormously sad.
Rest in peace...
Was that where he wore Glenda's robe? That was a funny, clever movie.
