there was more than one LD issue. One was horrible, two were OK.The DVD is nominally clearer, as always, but the slow pans coupled with extreme level of contrast and detail yield some scenes that are rife with artifacts. I have become aclimated to such things and most DVDs no longer give me headaches, but this one still can. That is true on any number of players for my copy.
I hope yours is better. I would upgrade players, but with HD-DVD right 'round the corner I am holding back. And there are only a few disks I find bothersome. Unfortunately, this excellent film is one of them. At least I have 2 different laserdiscs to fall back on.

Thanks, this is helpful. The LD is the "Sugnature Commemorative Edition" so it is probably the best one. I doin't know if the DVD is ananmorphic, do you? I will report back when it arrives.
