Tales of Tomorrow, ABC, aired August 3 1951 to June 12 1953; sophisticated science fiction based on classic stories by major
authors (H.G. Wells' "The Crystal Egg", Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein",
2-part Jules Verne's "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea", starring Thomas
Mitchell and Leslie Nielsen) plus modern stories ("The Monsters From
Mars", "The Dark Angel", "Immortal", "The Flying Saucer"....). It
was transmitted live, with filmed inserts. It alternated with other
series and was also aired on radio in early 1953. Creators/producers
were George Foley and Dick Gordon.
i remember watching that show when i was a kid, one episode scared the hell out of me. about a boy sending pictures back and forth to the moon to a "mister white".nightmares! also sydicated SCIENCE FICTION THEATER with host TRUMAN something.....REM
Hosted by Truman Bradley, produced by Ivan Tors for two seasons,1956-57. Bradley opened each show by demonstrating an invention or scientific principle upon which the show was to be based. Tried very
hard to present all its bizarre melodramas in a matter-of-fact, credible way - almost journalistic in its approach - and always
avoided any kind of trick ending. At its best was very good, at its
worst, flat out boring. I enjoyed some of them as a child.
I'm also interested in finding out if the old British TV series,
"Out Of The Unknown" is available, plots usually involved earthlings
making contact with both friendly and unfriendly extraterrestials.
Not shown in USA. - AH
Are any of them out on tape? This was the kind of program, I would have done anything to watch when I was a kid.Missed most of them because either my dad had a cowboy show on or else I had to be in bed. Most of my sci fi came from reading in those days.
What were the good radio shows? "Lights Out" was one, I think.
