Cecille B. DeMille himself introduces this 3 hour 39 minute biblical tale which was filmed in VistaVision. What I noticed this time through was the incredible number of convincing special effects, far more than, say, "Ben Hur" or "Spartacus". Say what you will about this yawner, it remains a virtuosoistic display of Hollywood arts and sciences at the century's mid point. Brynner as the pharoh comes off the best but I have never been able to accept Edward G. Robinson in his role as the Egyptian forced to migrate with the Hebrews. The wide screen laserdisc is a spendid transfer. Dolby Pro Logic II opens up the stereo sound mix.

Cananites,If you watch the exodus from Egypt scene carefully, you'll notice the guy on a camel wearing a Rolex.
It's totally hilarious.
Dathan (Edward G.) was the first Jewish KAPO.

of course there were no computer/digital effects. When the faithful were led out of Egypt, DeMille had thousands upon thousands of extras. The story has variants, but the most common one was that he had several camara positions.DeMille called "action",
Shortly into the take radioed the first camera position
"Too much dust,CB. I can't see a thing!" , quoth he.
He then radioed the second position,
"Too much heat,CB. The camera failed"
Becoming slightly desperate (and wroth) he radioed a third position
"Too far away, CB. Not a good take"
In desperation (the story goes) he radioed his safety "bail out" position.
"Ready when you are,CB" .Those who clain the story is true, and there are many, say that DeMille decided at the last minute not to do a run through to save time and cost but that the last camara position was never notified.
Whatever the truth is, the final version of the Exodus was DeMille at his most spectacular. No one could afford the extras required today.
Was Edgar G. Robinson not a Jew working for the Egyptian?
For the rest I agree 100 %. I never will forget the first time I saw this big " Schinken "!
I thought he was an Egyptian but his being a Jew working for them makes more sense. Thanks.
Well I HOPE that is so! That is what I remember anyway.

Patrick
I did some Internet checking and he is described as "a Hebrew traitor".
