----At one point, I thought for sure that Hollywood was going to make yet another major rewrite---Nah, they just had Mel introduce guerilla tactics to the colonial cause (thanks Mel!) after which he personnaly carried the battle flag in the "pivotal" battle of the war which reversed the colonials previosly failing efforts in the war as a whole. Hey, just another day in the life for a hollywood superhero ;-)

These tactics were common in the North. Thus, why Washington was more successful albeit still losing at this time. George also had what amounts to snipers backing his regulars. These were farmers with rifles rather than muskets. They were ideal for hunting where accuracy was vastly more important than rate of fire. They took longer to load but the rifling made them quite accurate especially in comparison. Ideal for sniping.
That and the character he played was a real life lowlife. Raped slaves and butchered indians.

I had no idea that his character was supposed to be fashioned after a real person!A southerner who had colored liberated servants in thev 18th century? He would've been hanged! I thought this was pure PC stuff that Hollywood made to invent a character to make his brutality indearing rather than repulse a modern day audience.
I guess the telling of the "secret" was as close to expose his notorious history in a more tolerable way.
The character was modeled after "Swamp Fox" Francis Marion. After the the producers realized who Francis *really* was they changed the name of the character.

I love learning this stuff. I find it intiguing. With a little more of this, I could've stayed awake in HS history class.
