Has anyone seen any of the hilarious episodes from Moore's 'The Awful Truth' TV series? It appeared for 2 seasons on cable TV, and is now out on DVD. On one of the episodes, Mike and company stage a 'mock funeral' in front of HMO Humana Healthcare, because the company would not cover a Pancreas transplant for a dying patient who desperately needed the surgery fast! Turns out that after Moore's stunt, the company decided to cover the surgery after all (of course), and all subsequent Pancreas surgeries!!!!The subjects/injustices Moore touches about are serious, and his methods of getting attention, hilarious and genius. Moore has very big, brass American balls, and they feature prominently in 'The Awful Truth'. An absolute HOOT!!!
Follow Ups:
This was one of the best shows ever to be on television. It displayed Moore's quirky genius and knack for highlighting human injustices that occur far too often in this land of plenty. In one of the "The Awful Truth" episodes, Moore highlighted the brutal killing of Amadou Diallo, the West African immigrant who was shot nineteen times by New York City policeman as he went into his pocket to get his ID. After Mr. Diallo was gunned down he was found to only be carrying a wallet. Moore then staged a "wallet" amnesty program (similar to the gun turn in programs found in many cities today) in front of the police station where the policemen came from. I remember one scene where Moore was standing in front of a 4 or 5-foot stack of wallets in front of this police station. I think it definitely got the point across. This DVD collection just moved to the number one spot on my list of must have DVD's.
...a little support for this guy who has recently been the target of a lot of right-wing critique.
IMHP, he's done a lot of fine documentary stuff, like Roger & Me etc...
