A great classic (Academy Award Best Movie, Actor, Supporting Actress) is being redone down here in Baton Rouge. Stars are Sean Penn, Jude Law, Kate Winslett, Anthony Hopkins, James Gandolfini, Patricia Clarkson, Steve Zaillian directing and screenwriting.....I picked up the Call Sheet on my Hotel's front desk at checkout this A.M.. Didn't see any celebs (Penn and Law are staying there tho) but saw a lot of production types in the lobby at 6:30AM. They're on day 38 of 65. We're watching, from our 8th floor office, shooting down at the State Capital now. Pretty cool.
This should be a Helluva flick with this lineup of talent. Just thought I'd post a heads up on one to keep an eye out for later in the year. Director dude, please don't mess too much with the original script.
Follow Ups:
Keep us posted. Hope they don't screw it up.
Mark Ruffalo, a great actor, is in it as well.
in Jane Campions 'In The Cut'
First time I saw him.
What a fantastic line-up this film has!!!
He makes that film, which was unfairly maligned (I don't generally like this line of argumentation, but in this case I think it's true) by male film critics who came to the film expecting to be indicted by some kind of feminist manifesto. I think Meg Ryan, who would otherwise have been praised for taking on the challenge of her role, was grossly abused by the critics.Jennifer Jason Leigh turned in a great performance as well.
The film isn't perfect--it suffers from pretension here and there, but, for example, I don't think Ryan's character was supposed to be entirely sympathetic; if the viewer find her hard to bear, credit that as intentional. But stylistically it's exactly what's missing from films of that genre today.
....thanks, you are able to express what I'm can't!I thought it was really a very good 'polar' in the same way that that film Panic, with W.C.Macy, was.
I won't spoil it for those unfamiliar with his role as Adam, but they need a strong actor, who can also be sympathetic, to carry it off. AND, they shot the climactic scene with Ruffalo today, or at least the call Sheet had it on the "If Time Allows" for it to be shot.Carville as Exec. Producer should be great as he knows a thing or two about populist candidates. Just glad hes not IN the flick.
BTW, at the far far end of the quality spectrum, also shooting in Baton Rouge is Dukes Of Hazzard with, ugh, Jessica Simpson in the starring role. I didn't see a Call Sheet in the hotel on this one. Figure they're all staying at Motel 6 to get, and stay, "in character".
