this is the best American film showing what it was all about. I also lived in Savannah for many years and visited Beaufort SC where it was filmed, many times. The story was told that Tom Berenger married the woman that was the real estate agent for the great white house but at a local shrimp shack (that may have been the name) I was told she was a local waitress.
Anyhow, I thought Berenger was excellent, as was Glenn Close. This is one of those movies that made a startling number of careers.
I agree about Secaucus Seven..and I'm a big fan of Sayles. Yawnn......

opening scene: body in coffin showing sutures on wrist (men know the way to go. Never clot up that way) was Kevin Costner. His scenes and oodles more, didn't make it in the final cut.
