I wonder if too many try to read too much into this [first time] movie. The writer, director wrote it to star his college roomate. I found it entertaining...of course, I am familiar with the cultural and geographic references, and I didn't look for anything more than I was given.

Do you like Hal Hartley's work?

I like the way he made the central characters 'Hartleyesque' and all the surrounding characters more 'normally dimensioned'.
