The beginning was too soap opera-ish, but I am now at the scene where he calls his ex from the resaurant. Bathroom break.I thought the dinner scene was going to go one way, with a happy joyous dinner for all; but he got too drunk, and too nasty,
Follow Ups:
...I saw it twice in the theater. An uncommon pleasure, and a very difficult kind of film to bring off.
we got a DVD of Hostage with Brew Swillis. Worst movie I have seen in the last ten years. Possibly in my life. Could not be worse. I am having a new screen put in the TV to remove any trace of this POS. Impossible plot line; kids hiding from bad guys, but who talk loudly, hostages who yell "Hurry up" when cutting the ropes so their captors don't know they are trying to escape. A scene where a helicopter supposedly lands in the front yard, with no helicopter, just sound effects and flashing lights. Inextricable plot.
Music SO LOUD and so inappropriate, it would have better suited Batman. Jack Palance-grade overacting by Mr. Willis, and nearly everyone else. Predictable plot devlopments, such as scene with a female police officer first on the scene to investigate the report of an alarm (we know what happens to her!!).
According to Netflix Sideways is not on DVD until April and Hostage is brand new in theaters. Am I interpreting your postings wrong?

That Laddder 49 was a POS, I got half way through, Fahgeddaboudit. I am still not all the way though Sideways but it has gotten way better. WAY BETTER. Don't lose patience. It starts to get way better when they leave Mom's house. I don't want to say anymore, as I hate people who give away the plot.
I thought this a wonderul movie, far better than "Backdraft".

Great right up to the last frame.
..apparently Battleship Galatica was catastrophic!
