Follow Ups:
The first season had a lot more secondary plot stuff that my wife and I thought got in the way than the later seasons. Way too many Perils-of-Pauline moments for Bauer's idiot wife and daughter. By the third episode, we were rooting for the bad guys to put this pair of aggravatingly clueless airheads out of their misery. Same applies to the unnecessarily thick subplot about the Presidential Candidate's campaign. (Not to give anything away, but for a guy under serious threat, he sure spent a lot time on the hotel balcony.)Once we got the gist of these characters and subplots, the FF button got a good deal of use.
Got totally hooked on it. I liked how there were a number of different dramas going on that are all tied to a single event. I watched the series on DVD and I'd watch all four episodes on the disc in one sitting, meaning, I couldn't get enough! It's nice to see Kiefer Sutherland back on top. I'd guess he has a new set of fans and had gotten in touch witht he younger generation who didn't grow up with him as I did.Same for The Shield, as recommended below.

They're all fantastic.I liked season 1 of 24 - I bought it on DVD and watched all of the episodes over the course of a week. But I'd recommend that you rent the Shield first.

Pretty interesting, the plot was well laid-out. Towards the third quarter some of the subplots start to wander a bit, and some of the characters act so stupidly you want to punch them (it seems the only way the writers could keep some subplots going is if the characters act brain-dead), but overall it's entertaining. I'd rent them and run through the whole thing a couple episodes a night.2nd Season: Also pretty good.
3rd Season: It was OK, not nearly as good as the first or second, though.
4th Season: The first part was pretty good, if not technically rediculous, but it seems to be coasting to a stop rather than building up to a climax. Hopefully something interesting will happen soon.
