Well, I might be crazy because I have never been a huge Pacino fan. And while I like DeNiro better as an actor, I must agree with the casting choices. Pacino comes across as the more methodical, more calculated, less impulsive. DeNiro the opposite. DeNiro (in the Godfather) came from the streets, where, I imagine, a certain impulsiveness and grittiness helped him accumulate his empire. But once the empire was built, I perceive Pacino as the perfect character to maintain that empire, which does not require him to actually kill anyone, or himself do the bad deeds, or be tough. Why the need to be tough when you can afford someone to do it for you. Someone more business like is called for.I believed that DeNiro could be ruthless. I question whether Pacino could pull that off. On the other hand, Pacino has a certain refinement that I doubt DeNiro could pull off as well. Hence, Pacino as Michael.
