I thought "The Matrix" was just a big cartoon, really, and as likely to influence the real world as any other sort of juvenile entertainment.Interesting historical fact - although I agree the "Clockwork Orange" is a more literate and artisticly defensible film, its violence is certainly not benign. When it was first released in England & Australia both countries experienced a mild increase in violent teenage crimes for a short while, coinciding in location with the screening of the film. It definitely created a brief rash of copy-cat crime.
I don't think "The Matrix" did the same, possibly because the heroes were good-guys, possibly because it was less identifiable with the real world, possibly because street violence is so common now that we don't notice a small increase any more.

...was not violence - I agree it is catroon-ish at best. My real concern is what a steady diet of that kind of entertainment does for the brain.The cosest equivalent I can see is a bag of Herr's potato chips and a case of Bud.
