I think that was the point of the film. The film has nothing to do with plot, crimes, or anything else for that matter. The point of the film is to put Clooney, Pitt, Roberts, Damon, et al., on the screen, and let them interact and have fun. The film could have been about anything. If you are looking for logic here, you are looking in the wrong place. Akin to watching the Wizard of Oz in hopes of planning your vacation.

Having said that, I too found the film disappointing. I do not mind character driven films, as opposed to plot driven films. After all, most foreign films are character driven, not plot driven, but thirteen or fourteen characters become too tedious. And when all they do is stand around exchanging flirty looks, well, that gets boring. Maybe it takes a women to appreciate this.
